The French national statistics department and economic research institute has published a report, the report shows the clothing sales from 1960 to 2006, the French families cut a lot of budget on clothing spending in their daily lives, it has dropped from 11. 8% to 4. 7%, the total sales has fallen more than 50%.
In 2006, according to the report, per capita consumption of French clothing expenditure is around 751 euros. In general, during the past 45 years, the French consumer has cut their clothing spending year by year, among them, the most obvious decline is coat, dress, leather, fur and and sweater. On the other hand, underwear, sportswear, related accessories, a set of upper garment, travel products and some other productrsquo;s spending remains the stable growth trend. In addition, footwear productrsquo;s consumer spending is basically stable growth as well.
The report thinks that, during the last 45 years, French clothing consumption patterns has gradually changed, clothing product already has become the basic needs product in peoplersquo;s life, with the improvement of living standards, clothing consumption has been fully satisfy.
The report says that, during the last 45 years, the French market sales of apparel and footwear products prices have dropped substantially, with various sorts of commercial network increase, supermarket, large supermarket, and stores in urban and rural has some lower price product, because of France has l imported a lot of cheap clothing, it led to the clothing market retail price has increased. From 2001 to 2006, the French clothing retail prices has dropped 1. 4% on average. Especially the clothing imports price has particularly dropped, from 2001 to 2006, clothing imports price has dropped 3. 5% each year on average. This is not a good signal of the clothing market in France, but France retail still want to change the poor stiuation in next few years.
